Plan for a much bigger loci system
I also have a plan for a 10,000 loci system which re-uses the 1000 picture dictionary images ten times each. Using a range of background images and colour fill of the icon itself, I hope that I can make 10,000 memorable places. Eg. Place 3798 would use a background of colour 3 since the first digit of 3798 is 3; and it would use picture dictionary image in the centre of the scene because of the 798 right part of 3798.
So a 4 digit number produces a scene at which you can then be imagining the stuff tat needs memorising.
Where I have been unsure is that each background colour occurs so many times that maybe that makes a lot of the scenes become confused with one another. One idea to increase variety was to have 100 backdrops rather than just 10 colours as backdrops. A weakness of that approach is that the complexity of the backdrop pattern might interfere with the clarity of the image(s) that are being memorised at that scene location. So I am now thinking that there is a better way to add variety; although adding variety must involve a lot of choices of what to add - otherwise, the sameyness problem persists.
My aim therefore is to keep the 10 backdrop colours but to add types of floor. If the list of floors is 200 types of ground then that would mean that any one floor would be used 50 times in the whole 10,000 scene system - and I do not think that that would be too samey. But can I create 200 visually distinct floors? I made a start on it. See below.
It also matters to me that a picture dictionary item can easily be matched to its item number. E.g. item 798 would benefit from a clue in its drawing detail that, ideally, gives me the 3, 7 and 8. I think that is an ideal and a more realistic aim id to have a main colour and a minor colour in each picture dictionary item; and the major colour of item 378 would be the 7; and the minor colour would be the 8; so that is a bit of a clue as to the item number of a picture.
Even though I use colours for 0 to 9 in my colours article, I think that the backdrop colours of this 10,000 locations system should be a little different:
The 0 colour of black might create contrast problems for where the major or minor colour of the picture dictionary item uses black. SO I would rather use a charcoal colour (a dark grey) than actually use black as the backdrop colour for 0.
Floors for Variety
I could make 100 types of 2D floor for the locations; so each floor would occur 100 times within the 10,000 locai system:
I like the idea of extra variety in the image; and I like the idea that the image being memorised can be based on a floor; but
I wonder if the benefit of having that floor would be outweighed by the extra effort needed to imagine that floor within the overall scene.
Playing with the idea, I am making some floors to test out the idea. I have made the 100 patterns into more rectangular expanded widescreen shape images too because I like the idea of a widescreen space rather than a square space.
Usually, I do maths on the 4 digits to deduce a visual feature but I think that the floors can, for 0000 to 0099, use floor images Floor 00 to Floor 99; and NOT exactly loop those floors when I reach the end of a 100 places. I want to avoid the same floor from occurring many times for a single backdrop; and to stop a single floor from occurring several times for a single picture fictionary image A way to do that is to say that, after place 0999, place 1000 should not use the same final two digits "00" of 0000 as a floor. Instead, the leftmost digit of 1000 should be added so that instead of Floor 00, Floor 01 is used. Similarly, place 1234 would not use floor 34 but add the leftmost digit "1" to thus use Floor 35.
And Place 5678 would add the 5 to the 78 to mean that Floor 83 will be used. Wrapping would happen. So place 7397 would have 7 added to the 97 = 104; then the Floor 04 is used: the Hunfred unit is discarded.

Synching Variety
Item 3798 and item 2798 and item 1798 all use 798 and so they all use the same picture dictionary picture. But the 4 digit number's first digit causes a different backdrop colour for each of them. That is good; but the 200 floors, if they just keep repeating, would cause the same floor to occur at 1798, 2798 and at 3798. So I want a rule that causes the floor to be offset each 1000 images. I can add 10 when the leading digit is 1; I can add 20 when the leading digit is 2; I can add 30 when the leading digit is 3; and so a little maths will be needed but I can deduce a non-samey floor for each scene.
A To Do Task
Until August 2026, my memory course has been expecting 100 backdrop patterns rather than 10 plain colour backdrops. I redesigned the 100 people system to express the 100 patterns; and I redesigned the 100 double digit acrostic icons to use those pattern fills. I have a task (which might be done by the time you read this) of remaking those images without the complication of the 100 fill patterns.
